Metafictional narrative strategies of two Cervantes' Exemplary Novels

The aim of the work is to sum up main function of the metafictional narrative strategies in two Cervantes' Exemplary Novels - The dialogue between Scipio and Berganze and The deceitful marriage. At the beginning, the text is focused on composition of both novels, mainly on their narrative structure. In the next part, the work is concentrated on analysis of reminiscences relevant - as for novels' genre, language and style - for interpretation of metaficitonal narrative with respect to the period of baroque upcoming. Then, the narrative structure is compared with Cervantes' novel Don Quijote which is based on the same type of narrative strategy. The author comes to the conclusion that the primary function of the metafictional narrative strategies is a possibility to interpret the question of the truth in relation to the baroque reality of the 17th century in Spain. The main importance of the work is presentation of a detailed narrative scheme of two novels, up to now absent in majority of theoretical works aimed at Exemplary Novels composition. The Influence of Virginia Woolf on Contemporary British Fiction in selected works by Pat Barker, Toby Litt and Ian McEwan

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to focus on the phenomenon of Virginia Woolf's influence on contemporary fiction. It attempts to demonstrate the frequent stylistic, thematic and personal imprint of Virginia Woolf in recently published works of British authors. Particular examples are drawn from Pat Barker's novels Life Class (2007) and Toby's Room (2012), Toby Litt's Finding Myself (2003) and Ian McEwan's Saturday (2005). The thesis concentrates on contextualising the allusions found in the four selected novels with the factual information from Woolf's life and her social, cultural and professional milieu. The literary modernist strategies, narrative techniques and characteristic themes employed in the works by Woolf are compared with those used in the selected novels. The theme of guilt in Czech prose of the 1960s

The diploma thesis is focused on the theme of guilt in the particular texts edited in the 1960s. The theme is followed with regard to the phenomena of holocaust, transfer of Sudeten Germans, collaboration and communist regime. The ties between actual and fictional world are among others considered with a view to refer to the unique character of totalitarian regimes. One of the aims is to find out parallels between the Nazi and the Communist regime and the interface of their ideologies in terms of analysis, comparison and interpretation of the texts. Simultaneously, the narrative discourse is considered within context of the influence it has got upon the interpretation of guilt. The guilt itself is surveyed with regard to the philosophy of existentialism which contributes to the specification of possible ways of defining the particular offences and their evaluation, and at the same time helps to open new ways of discussion about guilt and possibilities of staying innocent as the significant phenomena not only in the realm of the literature of the 1960s.
